Not every great Andalusian adventure requires a mountain. The coastal e-bike route from Nerja to Algarrobo Costa and Lagos is proof: refreshing sea breezes, panoramic Mediterranean views and an authentic look at the region's sub-tropical agriculture, all on a comfortable, mostly flat ride.
Along the coast
The route leaves Nerja past the historic "Eagle" Aqueduct (Acueducto del Águila) before following scenic old coastal roads and dedicated bike paths through Torrox Costa, with continuous views of wide sandy beaches, historic watchtowers and the sparkling Mediterranean. A short stop at the striking Torrox Lighthouse is the perfect excuse for coffee and a bit of local history before continuing to the turning point at Algarrobo Costa.
The way back through authentic villages
Rather than retracing the outbound route exactly, the ride back passes through the quieter, more authentic seaside villages of Mezquitilla and Lagos — a slower, more local perspective on the Mediterranean shoreline than the busier resort towns nearby.
Lunch that's worth the ride
Around the halfway point, the group stops at a highly popular local restaurant known for its regional dishes and fresh seafood — a proper, extensive lunch featuring Andalusian specialties, not a quick sandwich stop.
Into the greenhouses of Torrox
After lunch, the route dips inland into Torrox's greenhouse and orchard areas, offering a first-hand look at the sub-tropical fruit and vegetable farming — think avocados and mangoes — that quietly powers much of the Costa del Sol Oriental's economy. Thanks to the electric assistance, this short inland climb barely registers.
