The Best E-Bike Routes from Cómpeta

Cómpeta is the perfect starting point for e-bike rides in the Axarquía. Within a few kilometres you are riding past vineyards, through white villages and along viewpoints overlooking the Mediterranean. Here are four of our favourite routes, sorted from easy to challenging. Distances are indicative; your guide or route app will give the exact figures.

1. The Mudéjar loop: Cómpeta – Canillas de Albaida – Árchez

Approx. 20 km · easy to moderate · standard e-bike

Ride from Cómpeta to the neighbouring village of Canillas de Albaida, then descend through the valley to Árchez, famous for its slender Almohad minaret, now the church tower. The climb back is steady but very manageable with electric assistance. This route is ideal as a first ride to get used to your bike.

2. Down to the coast: Cómpeta – Sayalonga – Torrox

Approx. 40 km · moderate · standard or premium e-bike

This route takes you past terraces of avocado and mango trees to Sayalonga, known for its round cemetery, and on towards Torrox. Have lunch near the coast before tackling the long climb back to Cómpeta. Set the bike to a medium assistance level on the way down and save the highest level for the final climb.

3. The wine route: Cómpeta and the Moscatel vineyards

Approx. 25–30 km · moderate · e-MTB recommended

The hills around Cómpeta are covered with vineyards that produce the sweet Moscatel grapes for which the village is famous. Agricultural tracks wind between the vines, with views of the Sierra Almijara above and the sea below. In late summer you will see grapes drying in the sun on the traditional paseros.

4. The mountain ride: Cómpeta – Frigiliana

Approx. 45–55 km · challenging · e-mountain bike

For experienced riders: forest tracks along the edge of the natural park of the Sierras of Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama lead towards Frigiliana, often voted one of the most beautiful villages in Spain. Combine this route with a lunch stop at El Acebuchal, described in our article E-Biking to El Acebuchal.

Practical tips

  • Check your battery level before you start; a full battery gives plenty of range for all routes above in mixed assistance.
  • Download the route offline; mobile coverage can be patchy in the valleys.
  • Carry a light jacket: it can be noticeably cooler in the mountains than on the coast.
